Eugene McMahel's passion for speed began with his first motorcycle, a 250cc Honda Rebel, which he used to attend a motorcycle safety course. This initial experience ignited his enthusiasm for motorcycling. In May 2012, following a personal life change, he purchased a Honda Fireblade (CBR 1000RR) from Daytona Powersports in Florida. On the very day he acquired the bike, McMahel attempted his first wheelie, marking the start of his deep dive into high-performance motorcycling. He honed his skills on challenging roads like "The Devil's Whip" and the "Tail of the Dragon" in North Carolina. Despite an early crash on I-95, his determination remained unshaken, propelling him further into the world of superbikes.
Seeking new horizons, McMahel relocated to Vicenza, Italy, where he worked and continued his passion for riding. He gained notoriety by engaging in high-speed races against Ferrari test drivers in the hills of Maranello. One of his videos, showcasing a race against a Ferrari F40, garnered over 6.4 million views, catapulting him into the spotlight. However, his daring exploits caught the attention of Italian authorities. In September 2015, the prosecutor's office in Schio charged him with reckless driving, leading to the temporary seizure of his motorcycles. This legal entanglement, coupled with growing criticism from media outlets, prompted his return to the United States.
Upon returning to the U.S., McMahel, under the moniker Max Wrist, channeled his experiences into creating content for his YouTube channel, which has amassed over 1 million subscribers. His videos, characterized by high-speed rides and daring stunts, resonate with a global audience, earning him a reputation for pushing the limits of motorcycle riding. Beyond YouTube, his presence extends to platforms like Instagram, where he continues to engage with fans and share his adrenaline-fueled adventures.
Max Wrist's journey from a novice rider to a social media sensation underscores his relentless pursuit of speed and adventure. His story, marked by thrilling highs and formidable challenges, continues to captivate and inspire motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide.
Take a look behind the throttle at how Max Wrist: Killin' the Game came to life — from the street to the editing bay.
Zoey Tur, the documentary's director, is no stranger to speed or storytelling. As a pioneering broadcast journalist and helicopter pilot, she famously covered some of the most intense moments in modern news — including the O.J. Simpson freeway chase, the Reginald Denny beating, and numerous high-stakes police pursuits over Los Angeles.
In Max Wrist, Tur returns to the frontlines of adrenaline — not from the sky, but from the saddle. Alongside Raja Srinivasan, both Tur and Srinivasan not only produced the film but also rode many of the same high-risk routes as Max Wrist himself. Their firsthand experience on superbikes gives the film an authentic edge and deep empathy for its subject.
Shot across iconic locations known for their danger and beauty, the film captures the essence of the high-speed underground:
Every location in the film is chosen not just for its scenery, but for what it represents in the high-stakes world of speed, escape, and identity.
